Some things and other things: The” Frenzied Free Agency” edition
By Dr. Bill Chachkes-Executive Editor-Football Reporters Online
What do St.Patricks day, The IRS, and NFL Free Agency have in common? Their busy seasons all start in MARCH. As for the bank accounts of future “million dollar babies,” please don’t think that they are getting handed something for nothing. They are all expected to produce on the field or they can kiss most of that cash goodbye (See JaMacus Russel). These days there are lots of “incentive clauses” built into contracts, as well as “ethics” clauses for “behaviour of an unbecoming nature.”

A big part of the interview process when teams check out players these days, are surveys and “human science” driven conversations to determine if a player has underlying issues. Still, it’s easy to miss something if your not looking hard enough for it. NFL teams would do well to employ their own investigators so their local police departments don’t have to do the work for them when it’s too late.

The Numbers are in for the NFL Network’s coverage of the Combine and The first day of “Free Agent Frenzy,” their pet name for the off season movement period for players. To quote another of my fellow commentators, “i’m not going to use the “C” word”,…but only 47 players have re-signed with their old teams or moved to new clubs,…out of 532 eligible to do so(as of Friday the 23rd). That seems odd to me in the first full off-season of a new CBA, doesn’t it to you? Yet, Millions of folks are watching because the TV shares are going up up up….
Many people have slid right by the PEYTON MANNING story (of his move to Denver and his “jilting” of the Nashville faithful….) right to everyone’s latest media darling, TIM TEBOW. In fact, Tebow did for the jets just what they needed him to do without even putting on a uniform and taking snap! Pushing The NY Giants SB win and NY Knicks Jeremy Lin right off of the NY dailes’ Back Pages! It’s quite similar to when the Giants won SB 42, and the Jets went out and “Obtained” Mr. Farve (the Farve-lous one(sm by me!)
I watched Mr. Tebow’s “Introduction” to the NY media this morning. 32 Tv cameras…and not a Woody Johnson sighting anywhere, because he’s down in Florida with Tanny/Rex. Tim will do just fine in NY, even if he never takes a snap. I’m sure his marketing team has already put some deals in front of him to rake in the dollars. He answered all questions with that boyish impy smile that we have seen since he won the Heisman in 2007(see my photo from that presser)

I keep hearing “20 Plays” out of Rex’s Head…But as what? A “Relief Pitcher “of a QB? A Wildcat Fullback/Passer? Can “the Sanchise” and “G-d Bless AT&Timmy T” co-exist? The Jets Fans hope so. The Colts wouldn’t let
eyton Place” & “Luck Drive” come to an intersection. As far as I’m concerned, the Jets feel they need to do something to “recapture” the fire….but they should be looking at their own business

practices and how they treat even their most “well-to-Do” fans….
No big free agent signing will do that, and as long as they are filing lawsuits against luxury box holders, they’ll still be the “little step-child” to their Big Brother NY Giants in the Met Life Stadium pecking order. At least the Jets might now have the chance to sell a few more ticket PSL’s.
